Nintendo Switch 2: Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake Is Out Now
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is available now as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. Nintendo confirmed the remake launched Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, rebuilt from the ground up for the new hardware with overhauled visuals, voiced and expanded cutscenes, symphonic orchestral music, and modern camera and movement controls. The original adventure first debuted on the Nintendo 64 in 1998; 2026 also marks the 40th anniversary of the Zelda series.
Price and platforms
According to Gematsu’s report of Nintendo’s announcement, the game is priced at $59.99 digitally and $69.99 physically. The first print run of the physical edition features special packaging with textured foil cover art, while supplies last, Nintendo said via Gematsu. It is exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 — not the original Switch.
What is new in the remake?
Nintendo’s launch post and earlier Direct details describe a faithful remake rather than an open-world reboot in the style of Breath of the Wild. Players still guide Link and Navi through Hyrule across two time periods, exploring dungeons, solving puzzles and stopping Ganondorf. Key upgrades highlighted by Nintendo and covered by Engadget and Gematsu include:
- Completely overhauled visuals and refreshed audio, including orchestral music
- Fully voiced cutscenes and expanded character dialogue
- Reworked camera controls with the Right Stick, plus jump and run button commands
- A “Threads of Time” / quest-log style tapestry that tracks story progress and next objectives
- The Hall of Fallen Foes, where players can re-challenge powerful enemies
- Fairy thoughts scattered across Hyrule with extra lore tidbits
- Microphone support so players can hum learned ocarina melodies for Link to play in-game
Engadget noted that combat still centers on the classic Z-targeting system, and that item shortcuts feel closer to modern Zelda games. The remake is designed both for longtime fans and for players whose Zelda experience began on Switch with Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
Companion apps and extras
Nintendo said ZELDA NOTES in the Nintendo Switch App lets players review daily accomplishments, complete location “gossip” challenges for ocarina music scores, play a virtual ocarina and take an Ocarina of Time quiz. Digital card collectors can also find Zelda-inspired cards in the Nintendo Today! app.
Nintendo and Gematsu have also pointed to related 40th-anniversary hardware and accessories, including a Legend of Zelda-themed Switch 2 system announced earlier, playable and electric ocarina peripherals planned later, and Young Link / Young Zelda amiibo figures scheduled for 2027 that can unlock retro-style in-game masks.
Why it matters now
Ocarina of Time is widely regarded as one of the most influential 3D action-adventure games ever made. Bringing it to Switch 2 with modern presentation — while keeping the 1998 structure intact — gives a new console generation a polished on-ramp to classic Zelda before next year’s planned live-action film, which Engadget noted as part of the broader franchise moment. Nintendo framed the launch as a thank-you to fans during the series’ 40th anniversary year.
